15582 Deepening Students’ Understandings of Quantities in the Math Classroom
We know it is critical for students to understand that quantities are more than just numbers when problem-solving, so how do we create opportunities for students to experience this? This virtual session will teach the sense-making routine of Capturing Quantities based on the book, Routines for Reasoning by Kelemanik, Lucenta, and Creighton. We will understand how this routine deepens students’ understandings of quantities in math scenarios and explore avenues of how to achieve this routine in multiple settings. Teachers will have a deepened understanding of the integral role of the Standards of Mathematical Practice when using this routine in their classrooms. Additionally, opportunities to collaborate with teachers from across the state will be incorporated. This session is intended for math teachers in grades 3-8, teachers who work with exceptional children in this grade span content, as well as instructional coaches who work with math teachers.
No classes are being offered at this time for this course.
